Google+ first suspended and later restored the account of renowned Star Trek actor William Shatner, it has emerged.
According to the Daily Mail, on Monday William Shatner’s Google+ account was suspended by Google Inc apparently for “violating standards”. However, the account was restored after Shatner announced his ban from Google’s latest social networking platform on his Twitter profile.
“My Google+ account was flagged for violating standards. Saying hello to everyone apparently is against the rules. Maybe I should say goodbye?” Shatner tweeted to his 646,327 followers on the micro blogging website.
After the glitch was resolved, Shatner was welcomed again on Google+. Shatner laughed off the entire incident as he announced his re-entry and remarked that he would refrain from saying a hello again.
Although reasons for the ban have not been divulged by the company, it is believed that the administrator of Google+ doubted the true identity of the star and therefore chose to remove it.
Google+, the new social networking phenomenon which is still in its beta version, has already registered 10 million users on its website. Shatner’s case has confirmed that Google+ is laying down strict rules for using names on the website. The platform does not allow any user with a pseudo name.
